Board Foot Calculator

A board foot is the unit lumber is sold in: 144 cubic inches, equivalent to a 12 in × 12 in × 1 in board. The Board Foot Calculator takes the nominal thickness, width, length and quantity of any piece and returns its volume in board feet and cubic feet, with an optional per-board-foot price for a cost rollup.

The nominal-vs-actual puzzle is built in. A 2x4 is actually 1.5 x 3.5 inches because it planes down from its rough-sawn size; the calculator uses nominal dimensions because that is how lumber is priced, but lets you switch to actual for project maths.
