Weighted Grade Calculator

A class grade is almost never a straight average. Most courses weight homework at 10%, quizzes at 20%, midterms at 30% and the final at 40%, which is why a perfect homework streak can still leave you with a B. The Weighted Grade Calculator takes those weights and your scores, multiplies each by its share, and adds them up to your current grade.

Because the weights must add to 100%, the tool warns you if they do not. It also estimates the highest grade you can still achieve given the remaining work, and the lowest grade you are locked into if the term ended today. Pair it with the Grade Calculator to plan a target.

About this tool

The Weighted Grade Calculator is built for speed and accuracy: every calculation runs in your browser, so your data never leaves your device and the result updates as you type. It works equally well on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, and it is free to use as many times as you like.

Common use cases

  • Checking where you stand in a class before the final.
  • Seeing how much a strong final can lift the grade.
  • Comparing weighted and unweighted averages.
  • Modelling a retake or a dropped assignment.

Tips for the best result

  • Use the latest figures you have - even a small change in rate or term can shift the outcome by hundreds.
  • For annual figures, divide by 12 to get a monthly number you can compare with the result.
  • Bookmark this page and revisit the calculation as the inputs change.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my weighted and unweighted averages different?

A weighted average multiplies each score by its share of the final grade, so a high-weight category counts more. A straight average treats everything equally.

What if my weights do not add to 100?

The tool will warn you and still compute, but the result is meaningless. Re-check the syllabus for the correct category weights.
